This guide will show you how to apply the filter settings from a specific FreeFiltering profile in the Chrome browser:
1) On the "Settings" page, select the profile you have created for the specific family member / device:
2) Select the appropriate filtering levels for this "sub-profile" (e.g. "Safe Search" level, YouTube level, etc.). Then, ensure that the appropriate profile has been selected. The randomly-generated username listed in "Profile" should match the username you see in the "Encrypted DNS" section:
3) Highlight & copy the "DNS over HTTPS" URL (make sure you don't highlight any space before or after the URL!). You can do this by highlighting the URL & then clicking the right button on your mouse:
4) Click the 3 vertical dots in the upper-right corner of Chrome. Select "Settings",
5) Select "Privacy and security"
6) Select "Security":
7) Scroll to the bottom of the page. Toggle the "Use secure DNS" switch ON. Select the radio button for the bottom option, beside "With" and select "Custom" from the dropdown list. Right-click in the field and Paste the URL you copied previously. Make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces.
IMPORTANT: There is no "save" button to make this setting "stick" - click on one of the other menu items on the left side of the page (e.g. You and Google, Autofill, Appearance, etc) and then return to the "Privacy and Security" section to ensure the custom URL from your FreeFiltering sub-profile is still there!
8) Test to make sure DNS requests for this FreeFiltering "sub-profile" are being sent from the browser you're using. Click "My Account", "Real Time", and then select the appropriate "sub-profile". Next, open a new tab and visit any website. You should see the DNS requests show up in real time - this means you've successfully set up filtering in this browser for the FreeFiltering sub-profile!
IMPORTANT: Be sure to repeat this process for other browsers this family member has access to!
